About this site:
Marketing and advertising folks need to contantly monitor what's popular in American culture. They spend millions of dollars on marketing research and data to help them in this regard. Companies such as Mediamark Research, Simmons, Arbitron, Mendelsohn, and a whole slew of companies with the word Nielsen in their name provide these research products for thousands of dollars in annual fees.

My theory is that nothing on the planet is better at showing general popularity of products than Amazon's sales rank. Amazon's sales rankings are updated hourly and reflect current (as in right now) product popularity. This is opposed to weekly sales charts that are out of date as soon as they are published. Amazon sales rankings indicate product popularity among all Internet buyers in real-time. As the leader in e-commerce, what could better indicate the popularity of entertainment products than Amazon's sales?

This site is intended to provide a general indication of product popularity for music, dvds, books, software, videogames and electronics among Internet users. Check often to see what's hot with American consumers!
